Bearing Clearance Standard

The so-called bearing clearance refers to the amount of movement of the bearing when the bearing is not installed on the shaft or bearing box, and the inner ring or the outer ring is fixed. According to the direction of movement, it can be divided into radial clearance and axial clearance.

The rolling fatigue life, temperature rise, noise and vibration of the bearing are affected by the size of the clearance (called working clearance) during operation.

When measuring the clearance of the bearing, in order to obtain a stable measurement value, the bearing is generally subjected to a specified measurement load.

As a result, the resulting measurement is larger than the real (known as theoretical) clearance, which increases the amount of elastic deformation produced by measuring the load.

But for roller bearings, the elastic deformation is small and can be neglected.

The internal clearance of the bearing before mounting is generally represented by the theoretical clearance.

Clearance selection

The clearance after deducting the expansion or contraction of the ring caused by over-interference fit when bearing is mounted on the shaft or inside the enclosure is called "mounting clearance".

The clearance is called "effective clearance" after adding or subtracting the size variation caused by the temperature difference inside the bearing.

The bearing is equipped with a clearance that is mechanically subjected to a certain amount of load placement, i.e.

When the working clearance is slightly negative, the bearing has the longest fatigue life, but the fatigue life decreases significantly with the increase of the negative clearance. Therefore, when the bearing clearance is selected, it is generally advisable to make the working clearance zero or slightly positive.

In addition, when the rigidity of the bearing needs to be improved or the noise needs to be reduced, the working clearance should be further taken as a negative value, and when the bearing temperature rises violently, the working clearance should be further taken as a positive value, etc., which must be further analyzed according to the use conditions.
